Privacy Protector - Scan & Remove Threats App Reviews
Crashes repeatedly
Crashes almost every time I open it, when I can get it to run it doesn’t open a window and doesn’t seem to do anything.
crashes on startup
why pay for an app that crashes when you open it?
Looks Good
Just got this and trying it out , so far looks great , FIPLAB puts out some useful apps.
Worthless
It does absolutely nothing, it wont even eliminate cookies
Does not clean website data stored on your computer (Safari/Preferences/Privacy), and contains no provision for deleting data stored by Adobe Flash Player; the only way to do that is to open the AFP and do it manually. Otherwise, it does sorta work.
Poor Application
This application does not remove items from Safari or especially Google Chrome even at 32 passes, supposedly the most secure.
This app DOES NOT clean up one of the riskiest places for confidential stuff to accumulate: the Mail Downloads folder. Things accumulate there…anything that was a confidential attachment to an email. These accumulate over a period of years, and rarely are cleaned up. Folders such as "~/Library/Mail Downloads” and other Downloads folders in the ~/Library/Containers/… folders should get purged if this app is really about protecting privacy. This omission is bizare, considering that their other product “Disk Doctor” does clean up mail downloads. Is this an omission, or neglect of this app? It does a decent job of the [limited] things that it does. A slightly better effort at finding dust bunnies like "~/Library/Mail Downloads” would make this app more trustworthy and truly valuable.
I expected more insight in to what was going to be deleted unfortunately it’s all or nothing. For example, you have no choice in what cookies are deleted, no insight in to what will be deleted in mail downloads, etc..
Four versions have been released of this app and still does not delete all cookies and sensitive data. I was excited to see flash cookie support added, but this does not seem to improve from past versions. As a test running the latest version of Safari, I logged into a few sites, and made some changes to website preferences. After using the app with Safari closed, reopening the pages, I’m still logged in, and my preferences are not reset. I like the UI of the app, but does not perform basic functions a privacy cleaner should. Look at the app PrivacyScan, after using that one, no data gets left behind, nothing. Hope this can still be fixed soon, Thanks
Excellent!
Really good… Strongly recommend.
Make sure you back up before you intsall it into the folder you want it to start from. A user should be able at create a folder for prior to it’s initial install.
Piece of crap
Threats!? I have other FIPLAB apps. Don’t bother with this one.
My iMac was getting a touch slower than I remember it to be. This app took care of all the trash in my browser history, duplicate documents and other stuff that I did not even know that I had… Now my iMac is like new again! Great app!
Easy and handy!
Excellent! Very handy and super effective! Very reasonably priced as well considering all it does. I would recommend it! Super app!
Very Easy to use and set-up. I clean it all up all the time. There is so much nasty software out there waiting to scoop up and and all info I am paranoid about it all. It is easier to try to be safe than try and work yourself out of a problem.
I tried to use this app on my Mac 10.x. version. But, it would not let me select a home directory, instead, I was forced to select a subfolder. Want to return the product and get credit. Cannot find where and how to.
Used this app in conjuction with FIPLAB’s Disk Map app to clean up content. My Mac was running slow, and this was due to reduced storage because of excessive photos and videos that Id already backed up copies of. Used Privacy Scanner to further completely eliminate browser cache, Finder cache and other duplicate info, and on top of that, secured my Mac from potential attacking. Satisfied thoroughly.
I purchased this app and ran it here on a late-2013 iMac running the most current version of El Capitan as of this writing. It did not remove everything it claimed to and falsely reported zero bytes of data in places where that was not correct. I verified this. So, based on a similar comment from another reviewer here I downloaded a free trial of another app also available here on the Mac App Store and tested if it would remove the items that Privacy Protector failed to remove. The app PrivacyScan did this successfully and also removed more items this app does not even attempt. There is no excuse for failing to properly QA software to ensure that it minimaly does what it is designed to do, thus my 1 star rating. I have removed it from my system and just requested a refund from the Mac App Store because this does not do what it advertises it will. I would recommend looking into other apps for this that work well such as the one I mention.
I purchased this ap (Privacy Protector) for my late 2013 Mac when it (my Mac) was brand new. For a while Privacy Protector removed files, yet for the past several months (over 8 months to be exact), it consistently shows that files have been removed, when in fact they have not been (when I open the program it immediately shows 0 for all files needed to be removed. In the interim, I had purchased several other file removal and memory clean applications from the AP store andthey all consistently showed many files that needed to be removed, while at the same time that the Privacy Protector program showed 0 files to be removed. I also purchased the Disk Doctor by Flip Lab (same company) which does show files to be removed simultaneously with Privacy Protector showing 0 files to be removed. Finally, I purchased Privacy Scan, Disk Diag,Memory Clean and Memory monitor from the AP Store, all at the same time, to be sure to have back ups in the event that one program failed to work. All of the other programs that I purchased from the AP Store work as promised, except for this one (Privacy Protector). Since i have paid for this program, it just sits dormant on the desktop and every now and then, I test to see if it will perform. It contintually shows 0 files to be removed. I feel as if I have been duped into making a purchase after the free issue (which worked so well) consistently requested me to upgrade to the purchase version for $4.99. I regret having to do so. it is like having a product for 30 days and after the trial period is over, and the purchase is made, the product stops working as intended. Not good at all. There should be a time frame that when a creator does a program and it stops working as intended, then when enough complaints come in, the developer should be made to refund the monies back to the consumer or user of the application. I do know that until the developer fixes this issued, I will not purchase anymore of the products.
